A new year . . . a chance to Get and Be Real

Happy New Year! Hope 2011 is treating you all well so far!

Read this blog post today: Disease Called Perfection. It is one of the most poignant things I have read in a long time. I hope you will take the time to read it.

I see myself in that blog post. I see all of my friends in that post. Facebook has made this disease spread even faster. Keep up the facade that we are "awesome." That our husbands/wives are "awesome." That are lives are "awesome." That we travel to "awesome" places. That our homes are "awesome." All. the. time.

Come on. Get Real as the author says.

If we could all be a little more real, we'd open doors to conversations and start breaking down the walls. Start breaking down that "need" to be perfect.

This does not mean that we need to go around saying how much our lives suck, how mean our husbands/wives are, how we think so little of ourselves.

What it means is that we need to start seeing and speaking about things as they are. APPRECIATE what we DO have, but recognize when things are just NOT what we want them to be. Putting the PERFECTION goggles on, just permeates this monster.

Let's celebrate and be thankful for what we do have, for our accomplishments, our husbands/wives/kids when they do awesome things, but at the same time, have those tough conversations of when things just don't feel awesome.

Maybe, by doing that, we can start appreciating and celebrating IMperfection.
